2026 EWR Showcase Information for students!

Clarity in a Clouded World: Advancing Communication in Research & Engineering

Quick Summary

  • The showcase is an opportunity for our graduate students to present their research and academic accomplishments from the year to other students, faculty, and industry professionals. We are looking forward to an exciting day filled with talks from students

How to RSVP for the showcase:

Fill out this form to RSVP. It’s very important to fill out this preliminary form, as it helps your SWEGS friends plan. We will collect final information from you later this month, once you’ve selected your topics.

How to participate in the showcase:

All graduate students studying Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or adjacent subjects are invited and encouraged to participate in the showcase in the following ways:

Poster Session

We welcome a variety of poster submissions this year, including:

  1. Research projects from lab work, thesis, dissertation, internships, etc.

  2. Term projects or final projects from any of your ECI courses

  3. Research proposal for Master’s capstone project, thesis, dissertation, industry work, etc.

  4. Resume

Poster printing is free of charge for graduate students, provided you meet the February 25th (11:59 pm) submission deadline. If you think that you have nothing to share on a poster, we would politely challenge that you are wrong! Approach and topics are pretty open ended - if you’re unsure, come to one of the prep sessions and we can help you brainstorm! Remember, this is a unique opportunity to make meaningful connections with potential employers, so participating is truly in your best interest. Upload your poster here!

Lightening Talks

Lightning talks are a 3-5 minute presentation on your most recent work. A balanced selection of talks from each focus area will be selected. Priority will be given to students who effectively highlight elements of their work that reflect the theme of the showcase. If you are interested in applying for this selective opportunity, please indicate so on the RSVP form.

Academia-Industry Interactive Sessions

Mock Interview:

  • In this session, each industry participant will be paired with a student. There will be a bowl of pre-determined interview questions on pieces of paper. The participants will take turns drawing from the question bowl as the interviewer and answering the question in 30 seconds or less as the interviewee. At the end of the mock interview, the industry participant will provide immediate feedback to the student and rate the student for award consideration given in the closing ceremony.

Elevator Pitches:

  • In this session, students will give 3-minute elevator speeches on themselves and their work. Industry participants will sit on a judge panel to evaluate the speeches and provide constructive feedback at the end. One industry participant will be selected to give a 3-minute elevator speech to provide an example for students. Finally, the industry participants will rate the student elevator speeches for award consideration given in the closing ceremony.

Resume Workshop:

  • In this session, students will bring three copies of their draft resume and will be paired off with an industry participant. The industry participant will review the resume and provide constructive feedback. The pairings will switch 2 to 3 times during the session. At the end of the session, industry participants will rate the student resumes for award consideration given in the closing ceremony.
